Hidamari Sketch x365 07

Hidamari Sketch x365 07 includes the four Hidamari residents, Yoshinoya, the Landlady, and former Hidamari tenant Misato. The first half of the episode focuses on Yuno and Miyako’s entrance ceremony to Yamabuki High School, and the second half focuses on their welcoming party set up by Sae and Hiro.

Scene 1: 00:11 - 00:30
C: Yu
Yuno wakes up and dresses for the entrance ceremony. An establishing scene with no yuri to speak of.

Scene 2: 02:11 - 03:00
C: Yu, Mi
Miyako joins Yuno for breakfast. While Yuno’s readings initially rose from her openness and friendliness toward Miyako (particularly since they had just met), it was undone by Yuno’s display of impotent fury. Miyako gets slight “masculine lesbian” yurilevels for her sweat pants, getting her a 1.

Scene 3: 03:00 - 04:13
C: Yu, Mi, Sa
Sae tells Yuno and Miyako to pipe down. This scene is also the first time Sae and Yuno are introduced to each other, and instantly Yuno considers Sae a figure to be trusted, asking her what to do when she sees how little time there is until the entrance ceremony. Sae, despite knowing Yuno for literally seconds, already feels comfortable enough to put her hand on Yuno’s head in an attempt to calm her down, showing an instant closeness between them that raises both of their yurilevels. When she sees Sae, Miyako inserts herself into the conversation by engaging in more wideface stacking with Yuno, displaying a close physical contact that substantially influences her readings. However, she is dropped down slightly when it’s shown that she couldn’t be bothered to remember Sae’s name (calling her “Chie” [ちえ]), conveying a lack of interest in her. Overall, Yuno ends with 4, Sae and Miyako with 3 each.

Scene 4: 04:13 - 04:35
C: Yu, Sa
While Miyako gets dressed, Sae tries to comfort Yuno. She again rests her hand on Yuno’s head and gets another 3 for it, while Yuno gets 2 for allowing it.

Scene 5: 04:35 - 04:59
C: Yu, Mi, Sa
Miyako returns, poorly dressed. Yuno thanks Sae for her efforts to comfort her, giving her a 1. Nothing else to comment on here.

Scene 6: 04:59 - 05:22
C: Yu, Mi, Sa, Hi
Hiro groggily joins the others. Since she’s barely awake, it’s assumed that she isn’t consciously performing her actions, and they aren’t especially yuri anyways. Sae tries to contain the situation by putting her arm around Hiro’s neck and forcing her back inside, showing a physical intimacy that gives Sae a 3 and Hiro a 1, since Hiro can’t be held accountable for her actions.

Scene 7: 05:27 - 05:49
C: Yu, Mi
Yuno and Miyako enter the school grounds. Yuno gets excited that she and Miyako will be in class together, earning her a 2, but Miyako was distracted by the flower decorations, earning her a 0 and a prescription of Adderall.

Scene 8: 05:51 - 06:42
C: Yu, Mi
Yamabuki High School holds its entrance ceremony. Yuno and Miyako sit together, but it’s likely because they don’t know anybody else at school yet, so it doesn’t impact their yurilevels. When she gets too tired to continue watching the ceremony, Miyako falls onto Yuno’s lap. It doesn’t appear to be intentional, but she still gets a 2 for it. Yuno, who screams at this, ends with 0.

Scene 9: 06:44 - 07:10
C: Sa, Hi
Sae and Hiro drink together in Sae’s room. This scene has a few instances of the Hidamari family unit motif: Hiro mentions that she wanted to see Yuno and Miyako off to school, evoking a mother seeing her children off on their first day, and when an unknown but bellicose visitor appears, Sae opens the door first while Hiro stands behind her, evoking a husband-wife dynamic of Sae taking the risk of opening the door for Hiro’s protection. It raises their readings and gives them both a 3.

Scene 10: 07:10 - 08:04
C: Sa, Hi, Misato
Sae and Hiro warily greet Misato. Misato gives a few rather yuri reasons for visiting, including wanting to see them again and being worried about not being able to let go of them, but Sae calls them both out as lies which Misato doesn’t deny. That she could make those sorts of jokes does convey a close relationship with Sae and Hiro that increases her yurilevels somewhat. She’s actually at Hidamari Apartments to remove something from the building, likely related to Hiro’s fear of Room 203 and probably not for yuri reasons. Misato gets 2, Sae and Hiro end with 1.

Scene 11: 08:06 - 09:06
C: Sa, Hi, La, Misato
Misato talks with Sae and Hiro outside the apartments and runs into the Landlady. Misato tells Sae and Hiro to take care of Yuno and Miyako like she took care of them, eliciting uncomfortable laughter showing the three probably didn’t have the best of relationships. When the Landlady rides up and asks if Misato liked Hidamari Apartments enough to return, Misato seems disconcerted and tries to run away, resulting in the Landlady pursuing her with shouts of “Misato-chan,” showing affection from the Landlady that isn’t reciprocated. She gets 2, Misato gets 1, and Sae and Hiro get 0.

Scene 12: 09:08 - 09:26
C: Yu, Mi
Miyako goes to the bathroom. She asks Yuno for tissue, possibly showing a reliance on Yuno that could increase her yurilevels, but it doesn’t seem strong enough to leave them both with anything but 0s.

Scene 13: 09:28 - 10:54
C: Yu, Mi, Yo
Yuno and Miyako go to class for the first time. They’re happy to sit next to each other, but again it’s probably not for especially yuri reasons. Yoshinoya offers to model nude for the class unless another student volunteers, and Miyako attempts to volunteer Yuno. Whether it’s teasing or indicative of a desire to see Yuno nude, Miyako gets a 4 for attempting to get Yuno nude at all. Yuno is distressed at her joke and tries to make her stop, so she doesn’t get complementary yurilevels for the action and stays at 0.

Scene 14: 10:54 - 11:18
C: Yu, Mi
Yuno and Miyako go home. While walking back, Yuno’s tiredness overcomes her and she falls asleep against Miyako. Unlike in Scene 7, when Miyako fell asleep against Yuno essentially randomly, Yuno is probably intentionally guiding herself toward Miyako to avoid smashing against the pavement and leaving a very wide streak of blood. That’s still not a very yuri reason, so like Miyako in Scene 7 she gets a 2. Miyako seems unfazed if a bit confused, but since she doesn’t show displeasure she gets minor side yurilevels to end at 1.

Scene 15: 11:20 - 11:51
C: Yu, Mi
Yuno wakes up in her room. Miyako reveals that she carried Yuno to bed, implicitly also being the one who neatly tucked her in, and waited for her to wake up for an unspecified time (probably at least 1-2 hours, given that the entrance ceremony probably lasted until about 1 PM, Yuno and Miyako join Sae and Hiro at 5 PM, and the only other scene that takes place in between is seemingly soon before 5 PM). She tries to downplay it by talking about how close the apartments are to school and joking about guessing Yuno’s weight, but Yuno still expresses gratitude by thanking her warmly. Yuno ends with 2, Miyako with 3.

Scene 16: 11:56 - 12:58
C: Yo, La
The Landlady delivers vegetables to Yoshinoya and the Principal. Yoshinoya mentions that she and the principal will be eating together, which is hopefully indicative of a professional relationship only but still doesn’t help her readings, and asks the Landlady to take care of her new students, showing a desire for their well-being that raises her up a 1 overall. The Landlady tries to absolve all responsibility for their quality of life, keeping her at 0.

Scene 17: 13:04 - 13:48
C: Yu, Mi
Yuno shows Miyako a letter from Sae and Hiro. Miyako interprets the letter, an invitation to eat together, as a threat, conveying a distrust of Sae and Hiro that keeps her yurilevels low. Yuno shows no similar misgivings, but doesn’t do anything notably yuri. Both end with 0.

Scene 18: 13:56 - 14:41
C: Yu, Mi, Sa, Hi

Yuno and Miyako go to Sae and Hiro’s entrance party. Miyako immediately attacks Hiro, prompting retaliation from Sae. Sae’s preemptive strike could be explained as necessary since Hiro is incapacitated and unable to defend herself, but that Sae felt obligated to step in and defend Hiro at all gives her significant yurilevels, particularly in the cultural context of the Japanese idea of protection being associated with romance. The rest of the scene covers Sae’s offer to buy snacks for Yuno and Miyako, which is too overtly friendly to count for yurilevels. Sae ends with 3, the others with 0.

Scene 19: 14:41 - 15:33
C: Yu, Mi, Sa, Hi
The Hidamaris walk to the convenience store. Nothing worth noting in this scene. 0s all around.

Scene 20: 15:34 - 15:55
C: Yu, Mi, Sa, Hi
The Hidamaris buy snacks. Most of the scene is a joke about Miyako having the gall to want something, so nobody has a chance to get yurilevels. Everyone ends with 0.

Scene 21: 15:55 - 16:21
C: Yu, Mi, Sa, Hi
The Hidamaris return home. Yuno and Miyako’s game of flinging their bags could be interpreted as a sweet moment of friendship, but even so it’s not emotional enough to get them yurilevels. Again, more 0s.

Scene 22: 16:22 - 21:12
C: Yu, Mi, Sa, Hi
The Hidamaris eat snacks. Hiro tells Yuno that Sae was worried about her, prompting Sae to explain why (Yuno was shaking considerably). They then reminisce about their own entrance ceremony, with Hiro noting that Sae came after her, something Sae herself had forgotten, giving Hiro notable yurilevels for knowing more about Sae than Sae does. Sae remembers that she helped Natsume find her shoe locker, commenting that it was before they were on unfriendly terms and before, as Hiro puts it, Natsume had an attitude for Sae. Sae gets minor yurilevels for going out of her way to help a girl. Returning to Yuno and Miyako, Yuno says that class will be more reassuring since Miyako sits next to her, getting her yurilevels for displaying their friendship, and Miyako tells Sae and Hiro that their teacher is Yoshinoya. Sae and Hiro get immediately concerned but try to hide it, and agree with Yuno that she’s strange. Miyako blithely adds that Yoshinoya offered to model nude; while it’s part of a conversation fo Yoshinoya’s pecularities, Miyako doesn’t really convey that she thinks anything is wrong with it, substantially raising her yurilevels. Yuno also asks how Sae and Hiro deal with food, and they strongly imply that Hiro cooks everything for Sae (once more, like a wife for a husband). Yuno asks Hiro to teach her to cook as well, prompting a full-body hug from Miyako, a display of physical intimacy made all the more potent by their relative newness to each other, and a request to cook for her, which Yuno gladly agrees to. Final readings are Miyako with 4, and Yuno, Sae, and Hiro with 3.

Scene 23: 21:14 - 21:22
C: Yu
Yuno prepares for sketching. She wonders what Miyako is doing to prepare, displaying a fixation on Miyako that gives her a 2.

Scene 24: 21:23 - 21:39
C: Yu, Hi
Yuno sees Hiro skulking on the outside balcony. She assumes Hiro was talking to Miyako, but doesn’t draw any yuri-related conclusions from this, so she gets a 0. Hiro, who doesn’t interact with anyone here, also gets a 0.

Scene 25: 21:39 - 21:47
C: Yu, Mi
Yuno knocks on Miyako’s door. Since we don’t actually see them interact, there’s no opportunity for either to increase their yurilevels and each ends with 0.

Scene 26: 21:49 - 22:07
C: Yu

Yuno thinks about school. She decides to call her mother, and the choice to talk to her mother rather than her father, considering Yuno has been shown to be equally close to both, shows a preference for women that’s subtle enough that she only gets a 2.

Final Yurilevel Readings: (both Aokis and Umes are out of 4)
Episode: 1.6913A
Characters:

  1. Miyako: 2.267U
  2. Sae: 2.047U
  3. Hiro: 1.613U
  4. Yuno: 1.520U
  5. Misato: 1.473U
  6. Landlady: 0.983U
  7. Yoshinoya: 0.418U

Another high-yuri episode, the third in a row. Here the strong readings are likely a result of the everyone acquainting themselves with each other and the intense weight from Scene 22, which consumed a quarter of the total scene time. The effect of Scene 22 is best seen in Miyako’s readings, whose position atop the character rankings is in no small part a result of her 4 in that scene compared to the others’ 3s. Sae’s strong readings are mostly due to her kindness to Yuno early in the episode, while Hiro’s yurilevels are in general from her maternal nature or relationship with Sae. Yuno ends at the bottom, cursed again by her high scene time. Aside from unusually high readings, this episode doesn’t have much else to address.

Further analysis will continue with Hidamari Sketch x365 08.

Corrections:
3/13/13: A math error caused by improperly tabulating the N value of Scene 9 resulted in an original episode reading of 1.7578 Aokis. This has been corrected.
8/24/13: Yamabuki High School was initially mislabed as "Yamabuki Academy." The name has been corrected.
